First gig: My first gig in a night club i was actually under age (17)..Night Club out west called (Celebrities) in Blacktown.
How did you learn the art: I grew up in a house filled with music, my brother introduced me to soul, funk. I used to grab a plastic bucket..turn it upside down..grab 2 sticks and jam to the music outside my brothers window...day in..day out. Until one day he played "the Message" by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five? The art of street dancing, Break Dancing..Pop locking set in. Herbie Hancock's "Rock it" was the tune that officially opened up my world of turntables..scratching..Mixing that went along with culture of street dancing, breakin! A Turntable became my instrument..It all came together naturally..without hesitation... feeling that vinyl..having it in the palm of your hands and using it on the turnatable as an instrument..feeling the beats. just like that plastic bucket and my 2 sticks!..it all made sense to me... Two words!..(Rhythm) & (Feel).

Do you practice at home: I rarely practice now..after so many years of perfecting, mixing, tricks, I have'nt practiced in over a decade..it will never fade.
Your favourite type of music: It's difficult to have a favourite when music is your life, your air.. I appreciate so many types..but the ones that stand out the most are Soul and Hip Hop.
Your favourite track of all time: Too hard to answer... From "I can make you dance" by Roger Troutman to "Love x Love" by George Benson to "Imagine" by Snoop Dogg Ft D'angelo is a deep one for me. I can go on and on lol!
Your favourite artist of all time: Roger Troutman
Favourite gig: Every Gig
Career Highlight: Every moment since day one of djying for me was and still is a highlight for me! no matter where..when or what...still doin it!
What do you think about the music today compared to when you first started Djing: Music changes, it always does, and always will! I appreciate the effort, cleverness and styles artists/ producers come out with nowdays..at the end of it all it is music to me and i love every bit of it. No matter what, Old school music is where my heart is. It is what made music today and i respect that. You can still create an atmosphere and make people feel what they want and how they need to with todays music ,just as much as Dj's did back in the day with whatever style was in at the time!
What can the people expect to hear from you set: Uplifting RnB, Hip Hop, Ol skool Flava. Flava that creates that uplifting atmosphere and vibe.
Get out of trouble track (Dance floor clearing, you drop it the crowd jumps up): If i dont see atmosphere at the bar? i'll create the atmosphere on the dance floor.. i cant really pin point a particular track...but whatever i choose it will guarantee do its job. whatever i choose it has to be for the females first!..thats the most important for me..because the more females?..the more men.. But it all depends on the type of event! Eventually everybody gets thirsty after a good dance ;)

9 Miles to Empty - Brian The Gifted - EP Review
9 Miles to Empty |
I will however, review this EP honestly and objectively.
The title "9 Miles to Empty" is pretty creative, I like it, it represents a man on a journey, It's Brian's journey.
Brian is a definite story teller and I am guessing this whole EP is a story about where he was in life at the time he recorded it. The lyrics in each song are real and reflect, real life experiences.
Whilst Brian The Gifted, is a good MC in terms of his ability to rap to the beat, 9 Miles to Empty might have a sounded a little more exciting if he occasionally adjusted the tone in his voice.
The beats in this EP, sound pretty standard, like they were purchased from a website, rather than worked to make a good song. I think Brian can do better by having more input into the production.
TRACK BY TRACK
"My Vision" - This joint is like an interlude, an introduction, he talks about his vision
"Out of Breath" - This beat seems familiar, this reminds me of a Dr Dre track.
"Legendary Swag" - I don't know why this track is called what it is because "Legendary Swag" is not mentioned in the song at all
"9 Miles to Empty" - This being the title track is the best track on this EP. Brian combined the beat with a live instrument, and it has a Rock element to it, this track is good. The only issue is there is no hook and "9 Miles to Empty" is not actually mentioned at all throughout the track.
"Best Thing in My Life" - The beat is smooth in this track, the rap is tight, and it is almost a catchy track. The vocals however, are weak and pitchy at times on this track especially in the harmonies, I think the vocals let him down.
"On Fire" - This song is catchy and the most uptempo on the EP.
"Stress Relief" - Another song with no hook

Not a bad effort by Brian The Gifted on his first EP. I think with future records he needs to lift the mood, and add some upbeat tracks in the mix.
He's a good rapper, he's got flow and he can write, however, it would be great if he can be more creative with the music and production and alter his tone to boost the sound.
An added bonus actual structure to the songs -
VERSE-CHORUS-VERSE-CHORUS-BRIDGE-CHORUS.
If it is Brian's intention to produce "Non-raunchy music that doesn't degrade women with minimal profanity and with lyrics that average people can relate to, not just the rich. Most importantly - real music that reflects , real situations and experiences. Not just random ego music". Then he delivered with this EP.
It seems as though this EP was created because Brian The Gifted need to get some things off his chest, he put it all on paper and added music.
I guess that is all were it begins.

ANGELS BEST & WORST DRESSED - OSCARS 2012
I thought I would just do a little piece on who I thought was the BEST and WORST DRESSED was at the 2012 Oscars.
The key to looking good is wearing something that flatters the shape of your body and that you feel sexy in. If you don't feel sexy, don't step out! ;)
Gwyneth Paltrow is my favourite and I think the best dressed at the Oscars 2012! With J-Lo coming in second!

Describe the ideal SABATINI WOMAN?
The ideal woman is someone that loves high quality, sophisticated, fashion forward dressing. The Sabatini women is successful, loves comfort and has her own timeless style.
How do want woman to feel in your designs?
Empowered and free!
Who are your inspirations?
I feel that Sabatini is inspired by culture, music, travel, family, experience and the people you meet along the way! There are always muses that inspire but I feel life’s journeys are more enlightening.
Other designers you like?
It ranges from season to season however, I have always loved Temperley, Lanvin, Chloe ,Channel and my new favourite Alexander Wang!!
20 years in the game, has the business changed?
Dramatically. When we started there were not so many designers and people were definitely more concerned with quality. In the past 20 years mass production has taken the lead in the Australian market place. But we feel that if you stick to what you do and do it well you will always have place in this forever changing market.
Does the mother / daughter team work well together? It definitely works well together as we know each other so well and there is a massive level of trust which is hard to find in employees. Also, there is humour and a family understanding, a European thing!
