MONDAY PRODUCT REVIEW - Dermalogica C12 Concentrate

Following last weeks product review of Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant today I will be reviewing Dermalogica C12 Concentrate.

Ladies and Metro Gents, it is really important that we take care of our skin, especially our face, I have very dry skin, so I have chosen products from Dermalogica to match my skin type.

First we must CLEANSE every day, then we must TONE & then MOISTURISE. It is also helpful to EXFOLIATE on a regular basis. As our skin ages, we should look for products that reduce ageing.

I use Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant every day and I use Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant at least once a week.

To compliment those products, for those with uneven skin tones or hyper-pigmentation, I found a product to help.

Here's my review:

DERMALOGICA
C12 Concentrate
THE TEXTURE: Silky-smooth & soft

KEY INGREDIENTS:
► Water (Aqua), Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Oligopeptide-34, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Polysorbate 60, Squalane, Zinc Glycinate, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Palmaria Palmata Extract, Phytic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Benzyl PCA, Phenoxyethanol.

It claims to do this: Brightens skin and helps treat cellular discoloration and improves skin clarity. Conditions skin and helps reinforce the barrier lipid layer.

On my skin, It actually does this: I am still in the process of testing this product, however, I have noticed a certain evening of my skin tone.

RECOMMENDATION:  Dermalogica C12 Concentrate is slowly working on my skin, but might not be for everyone please consult your Dermalogica specialist.

A BACARDI BELIEF SESSION - Secret Event

Last Tuesday I was treated to something different, I was invited by my friends at Bacardi to attend an event that most people don't get to go to it was a little session for BARTENDERS ONLY, it took place at The Watershed at Darling Harbour.

I thought I would share this experience with you all.

So the little session was called the Bacardi Belief session. The invitation read:

BACARDI BELIEF SESSION
"We would like to invite you to be the first to experience a unique journey into the heart of BACARDI Superior Rum."

"At this special event, you will have the opportunity to share in our passion and dedication, gaining a rare insight into our rum-making".

We were invited to learn about and drink "BACARDI TOGETHER".

When we (I took my girl Aviva with me) walked in the room it was filled with some of Sydney's top bartenders including:

SYDNEY BARTENDERS
Rob from Flying Fish; the guys from Lonegrain, The Loft; Baroque Bistro; the guys and gals from the Four Seasons; and the cluey guys from Cohi Bar & The Watershed; and of course our very french Bacardi Rep Greg - "magnifique".,

The Bacardi belief session was conducted by local BACARDI BRAND AMBASSADOR the very knowledgeable bartender and owner of Hinky Dinks, Jeremy Shipley.
BACARDI BRAND AMBASSADOR, JEREMY SHIPLEY
Jeremy talked us through the history of Bacardi and the intense ART of creating BACARDI SUPERIOR RUM. WOW What a process! It is definitely an ART.

We also got to smell and taste the BACARDI at every stage of production. WHOAH it was strong at some stages, but it also tasted like vanilla and caramel at other stages. After learning about this process you can understand why it is such a good rum.

Bacardi was created by a young spanish migrant named Don Facundo Bacardi Masso who saw something unique within a rough, harsh local spirit named "aguardiente" (fire water) and has spent most of his life perfecting it.

Bacardi has been in production since 1862 and is this year celebrating their 150th anniversary.

In production Bacardi Superior Rum goes through an extremely intense demineralisation, fermentation, filteration, aging, blending and bottling process.

Here are some other interesting facts:
  • Bacardi is taste tested at every stage by humans during production and every bottle comes out tasting the same, I still do not understand how this happens. (Refer to the diagram below, where you see the BACARDI BAT is where they taste test it
  • Bacardi has Black Strap Molasses and Charcoal in it but they are filtered to perfection
  • A Bacardi Maestro is still considered an APPRENTICE at the age of 40
  • The Bacardi Maestros are not allowed to travel together
THE ART OF CREATING BACARDI SUPERIOR RUM
JEREMY SHIPLEY MAKING BACARDI COCKTAILS
After this very informative session was the fun part! We got to taste some FABULOUS BACARDI based cocktails made up by Jeremy with a limited edition of Bacardi.

I have honestly, never been a rum drinker, but let me tell you after this session my new favourite RUM is BACARDI.  It is best served as a cocktail in a MOJITO, DAIQUIRI, or PINA COLADA or the traditional way - CUBA LIBRE - BACARDI & COKE or try it "Angel" style with Ginger Beer - "Dark & Stormy". Yum I just love it!

Here is a pic of me and my girl Aviva, enjoying the afternoon! :)

THE WATERSHED HOTEL DARLING HARBOUR

Thanks so much to my friends at Bacardi for their very educational BACARDI BELIEF SESSION, BELIEVE ME I now LOVE BACARDI SUPERIOR RUM.

Monday Product Review - Dermalogica - Multivitamin Thermafoliant

Following last weeks product review of Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant today I will be reviewing Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant .

Here's my review:

THE TEXTURE: Light, oily and granualy

KEY INGREDIENTS:
► PEG-6, Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Oxide, C20-40 Pareth-10, Silica, Salicylic Acid, Retinol, Lactic Acid, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Hydrolyzed Opuntia Ficus Indica Flower Extract, Tocopherol, Citric Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Bixa Orellana Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Extract, Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Citronellol, Eugenol, Geraniol, Linalool, Limonene, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil.

It claims to do this: Refines mature or prematurely-aging
skin texture and enhances penetration of age-fighting actives into skin, while advanced technology ingredients condition and treat the skin.

On my skin, It actually does this: Makes it feel clean and fresh, removes dead skin and unwanted oils.

RECOMMENDATION: After I have used the Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution, I use the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, everyday. I then spray the Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner on my face and then I moisturise with Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance. Once a week I use the  Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant.  If you have dry skin I highly recommend this combination of products.

It is a little pricey but it lasts long and is worth it.

SECRET SATURDAYS -THEIR BACK - SWV IS BACK - I MISSED THEM

Well this secret is well and truly out! But I needed to make sure I helped get it out there more, because I am such a MASSIVE fan!

SWV Sisters With Voices
LeLee, Coko, Taj
The girls from SWV real SISTERS WITH VOICES are back and they are back with a banging hit song "Co-Sign" from their new album "I Missed Us" and I could not be happier.
Growing up SWV's music was a major part of my life, my sister and my girls and I would love it when a DJ dropped one of their tracks in a club, we would tear up the dance floor and I would play their music at home every day, back in the day when we had tapes. :)

The 90's produced some of the best R & B music of all time and SWV contributed to the good music with all of their hits including:

 "Right Here" by SWV

"I'm So Into You" by SWV

"Anything" (Check out 2PAC in this, Above the Rim) by SWV

and of course "Weak" by SWV

Cheryl "Coko" Clemons, Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George, and Leanne "Lelee" Lyons disbursed in the 90's to focus on solo projects, and now they are all grown up, looking fabulous and have re-united to bring us the good music.

Their voices are as strong as ever, and their harmonies are tight, vocally they are on point and they shine in "Co-Sign".

It is so refreshing to hear that old skool sound in today's music and artists that can actually sing.

"I Missed Us", dropped on April 17th and is racing up the charts, grab a copy - stay tuned for their album review.

"I MISSED US"
SWV
I have also requested an interview through their management, and am still waiting to hear back from them, but will keep you posted.

To all the youngins out there, who don't know SWV, you better get to know them and learn to love their music as much as I do, I definitely missed SWV.

Welcome back ladies. :)))))

RL FROM R & B GROUP NEXT, NAUGHTY BY NATURE, TPAIN, CHRIS BROWN & HIS AGGRESSIVE SECURITY DETAIL

Last night my sister in law and I attended a great event at the Hotel Chambers, well it started off great.
The Club was packed with eager fans awaiting the arrival of Naughty By Nature, RL from R & B Super Group Next & of course Chris Brown's DJ Babey Drew.

We were up in the VIP supporting our girl Tracy Rose who was the support act and my brother Sydney's Young Boy Old Soul Mike Champion who did a fabulous job was hosting the night.

The first artist to arrive was RL from Super group NEXT, and then Naughty By Nature and boy did the girls scream when surprise guests Chris Brown & T-Pain arrived with their massive entourage of managers, DJ's, dancers, musicians and security detail.

Chris Brown was heavily guarded by two massive security guards.

The performances started with an inpromtu performance by Big Ryat T-Pain's head Krumper, he is a rapper as well, he is the funniest guy and he can rap. :)

Then Tracy Rose our girl opened the show with Beyonce's hit "Crazy in Love" and showcased her stellar vocal.

After a short wait RL graced the stage and gave a heartfelt performance of all of NEXT hits and he educated the crowd on all the hit songs he had written including one of my favourites - "Just in Case" by Jaheim.

Just listen to RL's voice - PRESS PLAY ON THIS VIDEO

Music industry PIONEERS Naughty By Nature then joined RL on stage for "Wifey".

Naughty By Nature's show was just absolutely fabulous! They are true performers and professionals who care about their fans and are very grateful for their success 20+ years on.

Naughty did a tribute to MJ, paid their respects to their boy 2PAC and gave a shout out to Chris Brown who sat in the corner all night with his girlfriend finding it hard to get up and respect Naughty By Nature's request for him to join them on stage to greet his fans.

After their set DJ BABEY DREW came on and played a KILLER set I have to say, but seemed to have forgotten who I was. Hmmm REMINDER - I booked your VERY FIRST CLUB GIGS in Sydney, 5 years ago and you came to my brothers house to do the radio drop.

Meanwhile during, before and after the show, Chris Brown's thug like security guards were throwing people out of the VIP, who were filming NBN's show and they were grabbing people's camera's and phones from them and deleting photos.

JUST WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE? I could not believe the aggressive nature in which they treated our people, our DJ's and prominent figures in OUR industry.

The last straw was when So You Think You Can Dance choreographer and member of African girl dance group SAEA BANYANA, Tiana Canterbury (who YOU KNOW VERY WELL Breezy) , my sister in-law and fiancee to MIKE CHAMPION left the VIP to go to the bathroom and upon her return was pushed in the stomach by one of CHRIS BROWNS security team. I was disgusted.

Angel & Chris Brown
Breezy honestly, what has happened to you? The first time I met you when you were 17, you did not carry on like this, you put your heart into your performances and you mingled with the fans.

Come back down to earth Breezy!  You are role model to younger kids,my nephew loves you, he wants to be an entertainer like you. It would be so good if you used your position to spread a positive message.

I am not expecting you to be perfect, and I know you have been through a helluva alot, but honestly, your arrogant behaviour and the disgusting behaviour of your THUG security guards is uncalled for and unecessary.

Hitting and pushing woman might be acceptable in your CAMP Breezy but it is NOT ACCEPTABLE in AUSTRALIA.

Your security guards have absolutely NO right to grab people's phones from them and do what they did or lay their hands on WOMAN. The mean looks on their faces made everyone in that VIP section feel uncomfortable and that damn flashlight.

Ya'll are so lucky Tiana was not hurt badly.

Ya'll need to check yourselves and pull your heads in and treat the people that work hard to make sure you are taken care of in this country are treated with the respect they deserve and you have a responsibility as an artist to engage with your fans, otherwise don't do what you do.

As far as I am concerned Chris Brown YOU are in control of the actions of your security team. I understand they need to protect you, but honestly they take that to a WHOLE OTHER LEVEL, I mean I would understand if you were the President, but you're not, anyway nobody really, wanted to come into your section because you were so unsociable, so they were over doing it really.

I have met PLENTY of security guards over the years, being in the industry and none have EVER carried on like your team does. They are unprofessional and overly aggressive. Take Julius for instance BEYONCE's personal body guard - ALL CLASS & STYLE - NO THUGGERY! He speaks German too, an educated brother.

Maybe Julius can teach you're team a thing or two.

Anyway, that's my rant.

Other than that the night was alot of fun! A HUGE shout out to TRIGGER TREACH, VINNIE and RL for their amazing shows and for socialising with all their fans and making the night extremely enjoyable for all of us. T-PAIN I hope you are feeling better brother.

Thanks to the organisers who did a fabulous job of bringing that event together!

DJ in FOCUS - DJ D

DJ Name: DJ D

Genre: Urban, rnb & hip hop, old skool, party jamz, commercial, mash up

Number of years on the Decks:  Professionally since 98, private parties for over 24yrs

Any Mixtapes: Official Mixtape DJ for: *Kci & Jojo Jodeci tour 2005 & *Montell Jordan tour 2005
Other mixes are featured on Mixxbosses Radio Australia Wed nights 7-9pm LIVE on Radio2RDJ.com
First gig: A 21st party at the age of 10 yrs, nuttin but vinyl, cassingles, & a lot of balloon fights :)

How did you learn the art: Fascination of vinyl got me hooked at an early age. From there it was a lot of experimentation, saving lunch money to buy vinyl, and making mixtapes with vinyl & cassettes. I also learnt a lot watching worldwide DMC competitions from the 80's & 90's, and of course practice, practice, practice morning noon & night!

Sending much luv to all those that have lent a helping hand over the years, y'all know who you are xx

Special shout out to my sponsors & affiliates Chica Jeans, Mista Tee, Loyalty IV Life, Mint Condition, Juggernaut Systems, Platinum design, Clubworld 360, Black steps, & the entire Mixxbosses worldwide network.

Do you practice at home: Yes :) I have a home studio with a 4 deck set up (also known as Mixxbosses HQ) along with all my vinyl that I've been collecting since the age of 5.

Apart from jams & making mixtapes with other DJs/turntablists, I also record and produce tracks and radio promos from here, and conduct national & international interviews for DJDTV.com.

Your favourite type of music: Old skool west coast/east coast, & all the classic lowrider funk tracks that they've sampled, plus of course 90's hip hop & rnb..

Your favourite track of all time: Knee Deep - Funkadelic

Your favourite artist of all time: It's really a toss up between these cats: Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Warren G, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Mary J Blige, Jodeci, & Blackstreet are definitely up there too.

Favourite gig: In so many years it's really is too hard to choose just one. I guess the favourites would have to be the international tours & support for international artists.

Some memorable tours have included the Middle East in 2004 (returning in 2012), the Czech Republic in 2006 & 2007, Malaysia in 2008 & 2009 respectively.

Memorable supports have included Eminem’s Green Lantern 2003, Bel Biv Devoes Ricky Bell 2003, Naughty by Nature 2003 and 2007, KCI & JoJos Jodeci tour 2005, Montell Jordan 2005 and 2006, Afrika Islam 2005, Savage 2006, Horace Brown 2006, Snoop Dogg & Dr Dre's DJ Jam 2008, & Tank 2009.

Career Highlight: Being one of the first females to cut it up with the big guns of the industry on the local, national & international circuits, in many cases taking the title of being the first female dj to perform in that space, and in some instances that country.

In terms of turntablism, probably the most notable is placing 8th in Australia in the Technics DMC Championships in 2005 as the only female competitor.

You can check the footage at http://www.youtube.com/DJ78D

What do you think about the music today compared to when you first started Djing:
I just can't go past the old skool.  I know the younger gens are feeling the new uptempo jamz that have been coming out for the past year or two, and yes you will hear me drop these commercial uptempo tracks in my sets. Even after all these years I just can't go past the classic party jamz - those tracks that make you go 'ahhhh :)' when you hear them, takin you to back.. back into time :)

What can the people expect to hear from your set: Your guess is as good as mine! I never pre-plan my sets, for me it is all about playing to the crowd. Having played different venues and events weekly for so long means that the crowds I play for are always different, so my sets are never really the same.  What I play is really defined by what the DJ plays before me, plus what that crowd is vibing to at the time, not to mention the time slot I've been booked in for.

Get out of trouble track (Dance floor clearing, you drop it the crowd jumps up): To be totally honest I don't have one! I guess the best I can say is if the crowd was to thin I'd probably go commercial or classic.

What's hot for you right now: Diggin through my vinyl and finding all those classic jams that you just don't hear anymore..

Radio Show: I've had a lot of radio experience in my time, having appeared on stations like 2day FM, 2SER, OzStereo, Radio2RDJ, Oxford FM (UK), Express Radio (Prague), Street Vibes (Germany) & more.

At present you can tune in to DJ D Radio online 24-7 coming soon to DJD.net.au
